The Sunday Times Recommends Isola Rossa on the Tuscany Coast

Jun 01, 2017 Written by: The Sunday Times for Sunday Times travel magazine
Isola Rossa

The Maremma is Tuscany minus tour groups plus beaches, and it’s a hub for Tuscany now and more.

Hidden away among pines and palm trees on the Monte Argentario peninsula. Isola Rossa is a traditional farmhouse with an open-plan interior splashed with colour. A path through orange groves leads past the pool to a secluded pebble beach.

Situated on the unpopulated western coast of the Monte Argentario peninsula, this lovely stone farmhouse offers absolute tranquillity within a glorious setting. Rescued from ruin by a well-known Italian architect, it stands now as a simple but charming summer retreat, artistically decorated in a fresh, uncluttered style. The restoration work provided the house with air conditioning throughout, a good kitchen and three ensuite bathrooms, and reserved the entire top floor for an airy, loft-type master bedroom. A path leads through the olive, orange and lemon trees that surround the house to a secluded pebble beach.

A week in Isola Rossa this Summer from £1,285; sleeps 2.
