This week’s short, downloadable recipe card brings you to Umbria, with a selection of our favourite local dishes. Three comforting classics – these recipes are the perfect remedy for when a little taste of home is needed.

On Saturday May 9th (6:30 pm Italy / 5:30 pm UK / 12:30 am EST), our favourite Italian sommelier Valentina Mazzetti will return for a Rosé tasting. She will help you explore the flavours of a Negroamaro from Puglia 2019, a grape variety native to Southern Italy. If you can’t find a 2019, 2018 works just as well.

Directly after the wine tasting, Chef Lorena will run a cookery demo for you live from her kitchen in Umbria. On Saturday May 9th (7:45 pm Italy / 6:45 pm UK / 1:45 pm EST), join us on Instagram Live to prepare homemade Gnocchi with Umbrian Pesto. This version of Pesto incorporates basil as well as different aromatic herbs, and pairs well with a glass of Rosé. To serve 4 you will need the following ingredients:

For the Gnocchi:

  • 500g boiled potatoes
  • 200g ‘00’ flour (or all purpose flour)
  • 1 egg
  • 50g grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
  • 20g ground nutmeg


For the Umbrian Pesto: 

  • 25g fresh thyme 
  • 25g fresh marjoram 
  • 5 fresh basil leaves 
  • 1 teaspoon of dry oregano 
  • 30g grated Pecorino cheese 
  • 40g grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
  • 1 chilli pepper
