About the Amalfi Coast

Italy’s most famous coastline winds from the breathtaking Punta Campanella nature reserve to Salerno with the terraced towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello crowning the cliff tops along the way. Connecting each destination is the iconic Strada Statale 163, a precarious ribbon of road known as the ‘Amalfi Drive’, which dates back to the reign of King Ferdinand II. Around every hairpin bend, the glittering Tyrrhenian Sea appears endless, while pastel-hued villages emerge, each more beautiful than the last. The road is as thrilling as the landscape it traverses — quintessentially Italian in its charm and chaos.

The Amalfi Coast is a striking contrast of old-world glamour and tradition, where the stylish and the simple exist in harmony. Our luxury villa in Positano is the perfect base for exploring the bustling town centre, luxury boutiques and exclusive beach clubs. Wander up to the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta to admire its famous mosaiced dome, Byzantine art and Roman Villa buried beneath the church. Arguably some of the best beaches can be found here, including the Spiaggia di Positano and Fornillo Beach. 

In Amalfi, don’t miss the striking Norman-Arab striped cathedral, Duomo di Sant’Andrea and its Moorish cloister. Learn about the ancient craft of paper-making, wander the medieval lanes and be sure to stop at Pasticceria Pansa for Amalfi lemon cake. 

Ravello will seduce as it always does with its aristocratic charm. The 11th-century Duomo is worth a visit, but the draw for many visitors are the dizzyingly beautiful Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, with its “Terrace of Infinity”. 

For iconic Amalfi ceramics, Vietri-sul-Mare has been producing colourful majolica tiles since Roman times. Or, for a more tranquil experience, visit the fishing village of Cetara or the lesser-known town of Praiano, ideal for soaking up authentic Amalfi charm away from the crowds.

If you are planning an extended family vacation, the Amalfi Coast is also an ideal base for day trips to Sorrento and world-famous archeological sites of Herculaneum and Paestum. 

Sail the Mediterranean

The best way to experience the Amalfi Coast is from the water. Charter a private yacht or traditional gozzo boat and cruise along the coastline, stopping to explore hidden coves or the famous Emerald Grotto in Conca dei Marini. Hiking enthusiasts will love the Sentiero degli Dei, or Path of the Gods, which runs between Bomerano and Nocelle, offering breathtaking vistas of the Amalfi coastline. The path runs along a ridge in the Lattari mountains, so be sure to pack your walking boots and expect sheer heights! The Sentiero dei Limoni is a shorter trail that winds through fragrant lemon groves and terraced vineyards. 

For water sports, the clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea are perfect for kayaking, snorkelling, or paddleboarding.

The Amalfi Coast is a paradise for food lovers. Lemons are a hallmark of the region, used to create everything from tangy limoncello to decadent desserts like Delizia al Limone.

Seafood is naturally the showstopper here. Enjoy freshly caught anchovies in Cetara, which are used to make colatura di alici, a traditional anchovy sauce that dates back to Roman times. Savour octopus salads in Positano, and pasta dishes like Spaghetti alle Vongole, paired with local white wines from the hills of Ravello.
