The nearby village of Pelago (5km/3mil) provides everyday essentials, including a small supermarket, pizzeria, and a handful of bars. For more extensive shopping, Pontassieve, around 20 minutes’ drive (12km/7mil), offers a large Coop supermarket with an excellent bakery and fresh food counters. Florence lies 36km/22mil to the west, making it easy to combine days in the countryside with time in the city. To the East, the landscape becomes quieter and more wooded, opening into the Casentino, where chestnut forests surround hill towns such as Poppi and Stia, as well as the secluded monastery of Camaldoli, all within an hour’s drive. Arezzo (69km/43mil) can be reached in about one hour, while Siena (98km/61mil) and the hill towns of the Chianti Classico lie around 90 minutes from the villa.

Motorway: From the A1 motorway, take the Firenze Sud exit and follow signs for Viale Europa. Continue on the SP34, SS67 and SS70 for approximately 18km/11mil before turning onto a local road for a further 3km/2mil leading into Pelago. The final 5km/3mil climb through Ristonchi along a narrow, paved road. Access to the villa is via two electric gates, with parking available for up to four cars
