Our Top 6 Design-Forward Luxury Villas in Tuscany
The minimalist luxury villa on the Via Francigena: Poggarone
The interiors at Poggarone would hardly feel out of place on the pages of Architectural Digest. This intimate villa rental in the Val d’Orcia was created by Milanese set designer and Dutch artist, Edwin Vlassenroot. Its design blends minimalist industrial elements with the enduring elegance of Tuscan architecture.
Vlassenroot’s creative vision can be felt in every detail of Poggarone; the artwork adorning the walls, the bathroom tiles, and the hand-painted plexiglass and wooden chandeliers over the dining table are all made by him.
Set on a panoramic 2.5 acre estate, a seat in front of your private swimming pool with a glass of local Orcia DOC wine is the best place to be at sunset. Savour living gloriously off the beaten path, sun-soaked alfresco dinners prepared by an in-villa chef and trips to Michelin-starred Perillà in Rocca d’Orcia, just a short drive away.
A reimagined Wabi Sabi 12th-century church in the Val d’Elsa: Pieve di Ponsano
Architect Emanuel Gargano took the spiritual bones of a 12th-century church and transformed them into a luxury villa that is raw, poetic, and minimalist in design. Meet Pieve di Ponsano, a serene retreat in the hills near San Gimignano, rooted in Wabi Sabi philosophy. Exposed stone and timber beams meet clean lines and reclaimed materials, in a style reminiscent of Axel Vervoordt.
The villa is a living gallery. Custom artwork, handcrafted lighting, and sculptural furniture, all designed by Gargano, play with light and shadow. Each piece is a collectible, available to guests who wish to take home a token of the experience. Inside, the former church opens into a light-filled, open-plan living space. A restored altar anchors the space, with its original pigments painstakingly revealed during the renovation.
The 18-metre heated infinity pool, sauna, and wine cellar set into an old well, extend the villa’s design ethos outdoors. It’s a seamless blend of history, restraint, and deeply satisfying Tuscan minimalism.
An effortlessly chic farmhouse near Siena with 360° views of the Crete Senesi: PodereSole
PodereSole is a beautiful stone villa located just 19 km from Siena. It sits on a quiet hilltop with panoramic views of the famous Crete Senesi. With air-conditioned bedrooms, sleek ensuite bathrooms and travertine marble interiors, this is luxury living at its best. 300-year-old stone walls and lofty barrel-vaulted ceilings blend seamlessly with understated modern design.
The ultra-sleek kitchen and dining room are the dream setting for private Tuscan cooking classes and wine tastings, while the villa’s al fresco areas are a continuation of the serene interiors. Enjoy evening aperitivo by your private heated travertine swimming pool and handmade pizza prepared fresh from the wood-burning oven by your in-villa chef.
A luxury Chianti farmhouse with a 20m private pool and mesmerising views: Tenuta Almabrada
There is so much to fall in love with at Tenuta Almabrada. This Tuscan farmhouse on the western edge of Chianti has been lovingly converted into a comfortable contemporary home. Interiors combine classic Tuscan features with quirky modern design and colourful art. The modern kitchen is every foodie’s dream, perfect for fresh pasta-making classes and three-course dinners prepared by an in-villa chef.
The villa wine cellar has been converted to include a gym and a steam room, but the real pièce de résistance at Tenuta Alambrada is the 20-metre private swimming pool with sweeping countryside views.
Piero Sartogo’s modernist eco-estate on the wild Maremma coast: Sartomare
Taking pride of place on a breathtaking 75-acre estate, Sartomare is a fully-staffed, luxurious eco-villa designed by renowned Italian architect Piero Sartogo. Reflecting Sartogo’s signature sculptural and organic style, Sartomare’s clean forms are softened by the surrounding landscape and expansive coastal views. The villa’s interiors showcase a captivating eclecticism, with furnishings and details inspired by the owner's extensive travels across the Middle East and Africa.
The gardens were envisioned by acclaimed landscape designers Paolo Pejrone and Umberto Pasti, featuring over 3,500 native plants and wildflowers that support local wildlife. The views stretch unbroken to the shimmering Tyrrhenian Sea and the lagoon of Orbetello.
Echoing Sartogo’s philosophy of integrating artful design with comfort and functionality, Sartomare offers a wealth of wellness and family-focused amenities. A 20-meter infinity pool, tennis court, football field, kitchen garden, gym, and spa are all set within this vast, private enclave.
A fully-staffed 16th-century escape in the Montagnola Senese: Tenute Poggiazzi
Ideally located between Florence and Siena, Tenute Poggiazzi is a fully staffed, luxury villa set within the protected Montagnola Senese reserve. This was a deeply personal project for Simon, the founder of Tuscany Now & More. He worked closely with the villa’s owner to breathe new life into the historic estate.
Architect Ricardo Rosi oversaw the sensitive restoration of this 1500s granary. Together with interior designer Emilia Bonelli, they ensured the estate’s deep connection to local craftsmanship was reflected throughout. Every detail is made-to-measure, from modular sofas to a travertine dining table in the pool house, crafted by local artisans.
The pool house forms the social heart of Tenute Poggiazzi. Glass doors open directly onto the gardens and a 17-metre heated infinity pool. Natural light floods the open-plan living areas, where thoughtful materials and custom finishes create a calm, refined atmosphere. Powered by solar energy and enhanced by intelligent climate control, a water filtration system, and drought-tolerant landscaping, the villa reflects a quiet, sustainable approach to luxury.
